What Blogging Goals?

I’ve been analyzing my blogging after spending hundreds of hours learning how to work with my self-hosted blog, Always Write.

Could someone turn down that sun? I’m trying to blog here.

There are some huge advantages for self-hosting, but the learning curve for me has been and continues to be huge. So what about this blog?

First, of all, I want to segment and keep the other one about writing, blogging, and photography. Yet this one continues my photo challenges.  My next Australia post comes out on Monday. I’m excited because I had so much fun writing the post about fairies tree. My trip to Australia was fabulous and I’ll be reliving and talking about it for a very long time.

I’m not a Quack. You are a Quack. You quack me up!

So from here on out this will be my primary travel and local events blog. I’ve been using it primarily for that reason for about a year, but I only told myself, not you guys. I do my book reviews on the other blog now. This is my more personal blog, where I feel I can talk about me stuff.

But I think my blog needs a more creative name than Marsha Ingrao. Not that there is anything wrong with my name. I love it. But I think the name of the blog should reflect the tagline. Blogging and traveling near and far.

I loved Streaming Thoughts, but after five years on the job, I’m focusing some of my thoughts and not being randomly streaming. I have about 800 posts on this blog, so there are going to be plenty of downstream ones left.

Bravo Lake at full throttle in Woodlake, California.

I’ve been doing more reblogging and pressing other people’s posts on both blogs. The reason for that is to show some love to the people I love and to give my poor blogging fingers a break once in a while. It also introduces you to some of my favorite people. I only reblog on this site because you can only do that on WordPress.com. The other one doesn’t work that way.

I Need a New Name

Ok, I want a new name for my blog. I don’t need a new URL. That remains tchistorygal.net because I was the Tulare County History Gal for a long time, and I love that identity.

Vincie picked out the name for my other blog, Always Write. I thought it was cute considering how bossy he thinks I am. 🙂 I MAY be a little bossy.

Do you have any ideas you can share with me? Vincie and I need help. 🙂

If you have any blogging questions, head over to Always Write and or sign up for my blogging newsletter and grab your free PDF list of Influencer Bloggers. Or do both.

Or sign up for this brand new newsletter, yet to be named by you. It will be about traveling opportunities in Tulare County and beyond and fun posts about local events. Click here or click the picture to register.

  1. Marsha, I loved Debby’s book, and I can identify with her story. I laughed all the way through it. She could have been talking about me.
The problem I see with renaming your blog is that people identify you with it and a name change could end up with some of your followers slipping away. I would keep your name and add a tagline to the title, for example, change your title from Marsha Ingrao with Traveling & Blogging Near and Far as a subtitle to Marsha Ingrao – Traveling & Blogging Near and Far.

    1. That’s good. I used to have it as Streaming Thoughts because it was so random, but I like the idea of putting my name with the new tagline. 🙂 Thanks so much for the input. 🙂

  2. Just followed your blog here after you visited mine. Nice to connect. Do you use MailChimp? I’ve been thinking about using it. How do you like it? Like your blog and photos! Just beautiful! Blessings & hugs! 😄

    1. Thank you so much. I do use Mail Chimp. I have two blogs. One is Always Write at marshajustwrites.com. I use Mail Chimp for that one because it is self-hosted. It was a long learning curve for me, but I think I am finally mastering it. I’d be happy to talk you through it. There is another writer I know on Facebook who wants me to walk her through it as well. We could do a threesome. I’m happy to help any way I can because I struggled with it. A lot of it was vocabulary when I first started. Like me on FB and we can chat. 🙂

  3. Marsha, I picked up on this: “There are some huge advantages for self-hosting, but the learning curve for me has been and continues to be huge.” Oh my gosh, what a bumpy ride I’ve had since January. Blogging with WordPress was a breeze compared to self-hosting with MailerLite (Think MailChimp with more monkeying around!). I’m hoping today I can get the WP and Mailerlite to run in sync. God knows I’ve tried.

I’ll return here when I have a suggestion for a new name. In the meantime, I’ll register for your goodies. Thank you!

    1. Got your registration. Also, tell me what you think of my newsletter. Any ideas for improvement? 🙂 I only had 23 opens and 5 clicks out of 131 people. Maybe that’s ok, but it seems pretty small. I’ve never heard of Mailerlite. My WordPress.org and WordPress.com do a pretty good job of running together. However, I just switched my hosting site from Blue Host to SiteGround because my speed was so slow. It’s gone from a loading time of 49 sec to under 4 seconds. They say they can get it lower than that. That will be my next post.

      1. MailerLite is akin to MailChimp, which many of my blogger friends have used. My web designer selected MailerLite, and I’m not savvy enough to know whether it was a good choice or not. I know that synching publication times with WordPress was a pain in the butt, but I accomplished it yesterday – hoorah!

Next, I need to click on your newsletter and check back in.

    1. You have gas? I’m sorry MFR! 🙂 Or you’ve run out of it. Maybe I have it? Love you MFR. xox

      1. Noooo ! Gas could mean fun or talk too much as well. You did ask for a blog name, didn’t you MVBFM ? 😉 ❤

        1. I am soooooo slow on the uptake, MFR! Gas is not a word I use for anything good except fuel. 🙂 I remember from the recesses of my brain, “That was a gas!” meaning it was fun. You are a gas, MFR. I am not sure I could be called a gas! Maybe if I hung out with you! 🙂 Thanks for the idea. I’ll see if it fuels anything, MFR! 🙂 xoxoxx

        1. You are awesome! I’m not sure what it is, but probably to receive a notification when I publish a new post. So thank you so much. You’re not on my Mail Chimp email list. It’s confusing isn’t it? Thanks again so much! 🙂
