Cee's OddBall

Visalia Taste of the Arts has grown to ten times the number of vendors it had three years ago from 10 to 100 under my friend’s daughter, Carolyn Koontz’s administration. She now moves to a new job at Tulare County Office of Education. Congratulations, Carolyn!

Here are some of the more interesting Taste of the Arts.

Veggie Critter
Cuke, the Veggie Critter

Anyone could participate. Kids dug out holes for eye placement, attached all types of hair, legs, and other body parts. Interesting that most shapes ended up being some kind of “animal.”

Green teeth – no problem. They’re bound to fall out anyway.

This gives all new meaning to “We’re having octopus for dinner!”

or

“Who’s coming for dinner?”

  4. Poke sticks into veggies.
  5. Carve holes.
  6. Attach little veggies to bigger ones with a toothpick or by stuffing into holes.
  7. Display your artwork at the front table when finished.
  8. Take pictures.

  3. Our local tomato festival has a tomato decorating contest and this veggie activity reminds me of it!
    How fun!

    1. That sounds a bit messier. Tomatoes gush. These little guys weren’t gushing except maybe for the grape tomato eyes. 🙂 Did you see your book review on my other site?

      1. well these tomatoes do not really gush – and we have seen the contest for years – well maybe a few do – but it really is not that messy –

        1. Good to know. There’s nothing better than a midwestern gushy tomato. I miss that living in CA. Our tomatoes don’t always gush either. 🙂

  4. These are very cute! Looks like a great fun activity. The pictures are giving me some fun ideas to practice at home with our four year old.

I am wondering if the first picture is of a cuke or a bitter mellon? It looks more like a bitter mellon but I could be wrong.

Thank you for sharing ideas of Veggie Masterpiece. 🙂

    1. I am not sure, but I thought it was a cuke. However, I am no expert, having never heard of a bitter mellon! 🙂 I’m so thrilled that you can use the ideas. The kids loved the activity.
