Professional blogger….
Is that like a professional author? I have written books for specific purposes- but that does not make it my most important task.
Likewise, I blog for specific reasons- to educate the reader, to let the reader discern that I (and by extension my staff and I) have the skills and experience necessary to hlep their business interests.

  Hi R, You bring up a good point. Professional, photography, means to earn money by the production of it. But you bring out the point of intent. So you pose that a photographer, for example, might sell a few photos, but not be professional because the bulk of his income is earned differently or it is not his intent to market his photos? I blog for many different reasons, including: flexing my writing muscles in general, participating in book-reading and reviewing communities for children’s and adult literature, maintaining a social media presence, sharing the trials and tribulations of getting published, writing stories about a child who doesn’t like to write, and writing about anything else that entertains me. I certainly don’t go out of my way to build readership. Maybe I should care more about that, but at the moment, I don’t.

My husband and I started blogging because it provided a forum for us to share our ideas. Our blogging has morphed into a ministry where our only goal is to provide value to our readers within our content area. As such, we will never monetize our blog, or the services we provide through it.

  Thank you so much for leaving your comment. You are the audience we had in mind as we brainstormed the book topics. I think there is a dearth of books for bloggers who are not out to earn money with their blogs. It’s easy to get carried away and think we need to do or purchase certain things in order to have a successful blog, when that may not be correct for someone who has no intentions of monetizing their blog. I realize that I may be the odd one out here but that’s okay. I love blogging and I do it both for fun and for profit. I have been keeping diaries and journals since I was a child and have always loved to express myself in written form. I now have 3 blogs in operation – one which helps me earn a living and the other 2 are just to share my feelings and my thoughts. Writing is my passion and now it has also provided a way of earning for me. It doesn’t get much better than that! I spend my days blogging or doing some other form of writing and I get paid to do it. I feel truly blessed!

I am blogging for fun! I have always wanted to write a blog and or write ebooks. I am now officially retired. That for me means I am over 65. The age allows some freedom. Some of my friends and family have told me that I should share what I know in some of my interest areas. I am happy to say “That is exactly what I am doing.” I am doing what makes me happy and what interests me. Blogging/writing was on my bucket list. I was afraid of going public with my writing. If I make a mistake on a blog, it’s digital. It can be changed. That thought alone provided a push. I feel good when I write. That’s part of what it’s all about.

I blog for fun as well. Blogging for me started out to give me something to do during the day, since I was unable to work. Blogging has now turned into more fun than I could have imagined. It has taught me how to communicate with people and the best part is they are from all over the world. I could literally travel to almost every country in the world and find a friend. My writing skills have improved and my self confidence with my camera and knowledge has been wonderful. I now use my blog to help other get inspired about photography and do a little teaching along the way.

  Wow, Cee, I have watched you develop over the years, and it’s been a wonderful transformation. It is interesting that even though you blog like a pro now, and have built this enormous community, that you still do it for fun. I think there is something special and credible about that, but I’m not sure what it is. Part of it for me, I think may be the lack of pop-ups and sales talk, but it’s more than that because Leanne is a pro, yet she has the warmth and believability of an amateur. Anyway, I am writing a book about amateurs blogging, and I’d love to quote your comment, and interview you as well. Because of Blogging is going to be the story of my community of bloggers – the amateurs who have done it for fun and improved in the ways you just described.

I blog for pleasure too. I practise the techniques I’ve learned on my writing courses and always try to produce the best possible post. I love the interaction with other writers and the conversations generated by an interesting post.

I blog for the sake of blogging. I initially did it to promote my books, but its rarely about that these days. I enjoy the discipline of writing a weekly post, be it a book review, a reflective piece or a post about the writing process/being a writer. I also enjoy the interactions with other bloggers and followers of my blog. I simply enjoy blogging.

  To be a professional blogger today, I think it is so complicated that it would be hard to make it without taking courses. Do you see blogging replacing traditional media? Indie writers have become more abundant, as well. That is an industry in itself with conferences and events specifically to inform indie writers. Hi, I’m Marsha Ingrao, a retired educator and wife of a retired realtor. My all-consuming hobby is blogging and it has changed my life. My friends live all over the world. In November 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes, and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince’s sister came with us and lives close by.
