A year ago I took my first and only photography lesson with Mike’s Camera Shop and learned how to use F-stops.  Reading an article about F-stops the other day reminded me that I forget to spin knobs and click buttons before I shoot pictures.  So often my close up pictures aren’t excellent.  During our class we got really close.

Sometimes I got a little closer to the little hairs on the stem than I did to the blossom.

“It’s all in the composition,” says Leanne Cole.  That was before my first, and only lesson with her.  Life keeps getting in the way.  I have Australia – lessons with Leanne on my bucket list, though.

I think the shadow on the top flower resembles the 1970s cartoon, Gumpy, jumping off a roof, or sneaking up on someone.

  1. Har har I just love the hairs on the stems- to me, especially with perfect gin-coloured sunset backlighting, they become just as beautiful as the flowers! Loved your shots here, lassie. Lovely post. I remember the post you did about the class back when you first took it. Marvelous. Cheers to you,

    1. Thanks. I need more practice. I am stretched thin on practicing. Writing, photography, and now dancing. Yikes! 🙂

  5. Hmmm, I find close-ups very tricky and like you I usually have the background in focus, not the subject. (just ask Justin Beaver about this. He even wrote a post about my failings in this area)

I must look up F-stops in my camera instruction book.

    1. I like to put Manny out of focus every once in a while, just to keep him in line. 🙂 Have you noticed his pictures from OK on FB? 🙂

  7. I find it quite hard to get close-ups Marsha. Maybe I need to do one of those courses! 😉

    1. It’s a little knob on the top of my camera that I always forget about. Then, of course, there’s the ISO settings I need to play with, and I also forget about the lighting setting at the bottom of my round button on the back called WB. Leanne just told me that’s why I get blue pictures so much. I forget to switch to outdoor lighting! Yikes! 🙂
