I’ve needed a place to post some of these wonderful pictures I took in Chicago.

Chicago_0466

I bet they are seeing different scenery out of them than Randy and I did when we visited in October.

No snow in October
Randy was happy to report, “No snow in October.”  Is the strength of plexiglass affected by extremely cold temperatures?  hmmm

The temperature on October 12 in Chicago was over 80 degrees.   Randy and I took the Chicago River Architectural Tour, which I recommend.

Chicago_0128The height of these buildings made it almost impossible to photograph the entire building as we passed by slowly.  Can you imagine how many windows are in the Chicago high-rise buildings?  And each window represents many working Americans.  Amazing isn’t it?

Chicago_0189

One of the wonderful things about windows is their ability to reflect.  These buildings look resplendent wearing nothing but their own sparkles.

Chicago_0462

Some windows clothe themselves in their surroundings.

Chicago_0322

Or can you just see through the building?  Windows fool us.

Chicago_0341

Sometimes they create a scene, but we don’t accuse them of being temperamental.  🙂

Chicago_0350

Many of the buildings had so many windows we wondered how they stayed up.  We could hardly see their framework.

Chicago_0142

Buildings without many windows depress me. I wonder if the people who work in this brick building suffer from depression more often than the ones in the buildings with lots of open windows?  Our eyes are tiny in comparison to windows, so does the size of the window matter?

Chicago_0201

From the outside, windows that are not square and have details appeal to me.Chicago_0262

Architects love to decorate windows with balconies.  Inside, some folks want to cut off the view with blinds or shades.  Other folks leave their open.  Which way do you function better?  Windows open or closed?

Chicago_0412

Up close these windows are probably flat, but from a distance they remind me of windshields because the building curves.  I wonder what drives the people inside?

Chicago_0414

Simple rectangles decorate these windows.

Chicago_0442

Even the bridges in Chicago had windows.  Engineers just didn’t bother to put glass in the windows.  Does glass make the window?

Chicago_0471

For some challenges I have to go out and take pictures to have something to share.  I had the opposite problem here.  This was one city, and a fraction of the pictures.  My dad used to show slide shows when people came to visit.  I always fell asleep there were so many slides.

Dad droned, “And this is… ” zzzzzz

Chicago_0521

Hope you stayed awake watching my blog show.  If you are still awake, there are lots more windows here.

  1. You have some great windows there Marsha, that glass room you were in looks much scarier than the one here.

  2. Resplendent is the word! Fabulous shots!! I recall that being my very favourite thing about Chicago- or Cheeky Town as I call it. I don’t know why. Sometimes I also call it “The Ol’ Cheek” but anyhow, I just ADORED all the windows. Beautiful scintillating buildings of shimmering glass. So glad you got to take a whole tour of the beautiful and intriguing architecture there. I used to also be fascinated by the train. And the science museum and the art museum were both a hoot. One day I would like to go back to see the “Bean”. Did you catch a wee glisk of it? Wonderful post dear lassie! Cheers!

    1. Hi Autty, Randy and I were only there two days, and they were beautiful outdoor days, so we opted not to spend them in museums. That may have been a mistake, but we had a marvelous time. Now I need to go back. Maybe that’s what we should do some day – meet in Chicago, and have our photo shoot. 🙂

      1. Oh NOOO no mistake at all!!! Roving about Cheeky Towne outside is quite a photogenic joy, I must say, whether it is a sun-swathed building of scintillating beauty, or a shadowy alley-way of gritty noir intrigue. I can only image the photographs I would have now had I had a camera back when I used to ramble about the city, haw haw har.

Har har haw, sounds like quite an intriguing plot!

    1. Hi Jilanne, I thought it was in there. Maybe I don’t know which one that is. I recorded the 90 minute lecture, but I haven’t gone back and listened to it. 🙂 Marsha 🙂

      1. The Aqua building is unforgettable because of its tiers of balconies that look like undulating waves projecting from the sides of the tower. The waves obstruct the wind and provide privacy for those using the balconies. Google “Aqua building,” and you’ll see what I mean. The architect who designed the building is a woman.

        1. You are right. I looked through all my pictures, and didn’t have one picture of it. Either I missed taking it because it was hard to shoot and listen. I felt like I was shooting every second, but in 90 minutes, I probably only took 100-200 pictures. I don’t know Chicago that well without looking at a map to know if you would notice that building from the Chicago River. Most likely you could, but I got tired of turning this way and that way taking pictures as she described the buildings. Now I have a reason to go back! Thanks Jilanne. 🙂

  9. Yes, I stayed awake for the whole show, Marsha. Your brother had my heart in my mouth, standing so close to that humongous drop into oblivion, and as for you, actually lying on it………WHAT were you thinking? 😯 I think my faith would definitely have faltered at that point. Love the reflection in your windows. Stupendous images!

  12. Greetings Marsha. I and SmilingToad used to live close to the Windy City, but strangely I do not recognize many of the buildings! Memory is a little dim?!

Thanks for the photos. They are great. You have really mastered the art of photography for doing it such a short time!

One of my first dates with Jodi, my late wife was taking her and my stepson to Lake Shore Drive by the Lake for a dinner date.

    Super post.
