Technology frustrates me. I knew when it took 5 hours to write and upload a post with 11 pictures, that I was in trouble. So we called Wild Blue, our internet company. After a fifteen minute wait, and an obnoxious technical assistant putting us through a 30-45 minutes pretense of tests to get our computer to respond more quickly when you turn it on, the irritating one from Michigan said, “Your records show that you have used up all of your download allowance for the month.”

“So two weeks into the month, we have no more usage of our internet?”

“You can purchase another 10 GB.”

“But in two weeks, we have already used 15 GB?”

“Yes,”

“And 10 more GB is the most we can purchase?”

“Yes.”

“And there’s nothing else we can do?”

“No.”

“Ok then, thank you very much.” Now what do I do? I am addicted to blogging. I can blog for free from midnight to 5 a.m. Our other internet service was just as bad, if not slower. Am I wrong for being frustrated when I pay $90+ a month for internet service?

  1. WE have been having the same trouble, we just upped ours to 200GB, hopefully we won’t run out now.

  2. I have wild blue too. I have a couple of tricks, I upload photos after midnight when the data doesn’t count against the total. Or I go to someplace with free wifi. Worst case I use my iPad and upload on cellular. It stinks but it’s life with rural internet.

  4. They’ve got you right where they want you! You are a NetAddict! A Blog Junkie! Your are Hooked on Tech and they know it! Now the trap closes in… Be inconvenienced and get your Net Fix late at night…OR pay thru the nose (pun intended) to have the storage space you desire to extend your habit. A conundrum, to be sure!
I doubt my attempt at cleverness has helped an iota…but I share your angst, that in an age of e-communication, we are hamstrung by the Net Brokers! 🙂

    1. Thanks for the condolences, though. I will start uploading after midnight, and my husband just bought me 2 more gigs! That’s going to do me until I can at least answer comments! 🙂

  5. So frustrating. We once had satellite internet as an only option over dial-up. the first company had a daily allowance, so even a software update would trigger “fair-access,” the next company had a monthly limit, ours was 17 GB. The time we hit that limit a neighbor was using it for homework. 😦 who would have thought living in the middle of nowhere someone would run up our usage.) clamped down on access security and did not have that issue again.
Finally we have another option with unlimited usage. whew. about time.

    1. Wow, what did you end up with that has unlimited usage??? Our location doesn’t allow us to even use our cell phones, which do have unlimited usage.

      1. Now we have a service called digital path dot net. It is a local wireless, line of sight service. Our cell coverage just improved over “spotty” to somewhat okay. Not good enough for high speed internet.
all the inconveniences aside, you couldn’t drag me to live in the city 🙂

  6. Oh goodness, I couldn’t even imagine! My computer is on and connected to the internet literally 24/7…a riot would probably ensue if something like that were to happen in these parts 😛

I’m really sorry to hear that, how frustrating!

    1. Thanks. I was in Palm Springs when I posted that so that people would know I wasn’t ignoring them. I wanted to post something, and the place where I was starying had no internet service either, but at night we could barely get a weak signal from the office internet, so no pictures, or comments.

  7. I feel your frustration. I have never had that problem but have had other issues with my ISP. I am usually a calm well mannered person but………..

Guess I will just have to go back and read some of your blogs I missed while waiting and waiting.

    1. I used to think I was calm and well mannered, but now I’m not so sure. I hope I am, but the lady on the phone was OBNOXIOUS! It was kind of funny. Everything I said to try to make a personal connection with her fell totally flat. OH Well! Thanks for visiting Meme, and for the sympathy. I feel better! M

  9. If you have wi-fi, you may want to check to see if someone is hacking your system. I had problems with usage until we discovered that someone was usin my account. Fixed the security issue – no more problems. It’s worth checking out.
