Photoshopped Foothill Peach Tree Orchard

Years ago I took a series of fruit tree pictures but I hated the sky.  So I tried a trick from Leanne.  I tried to make major changes to it.  Please tell me whether you think my work is believable, and if it does the trick, or whether I should stick to the original.

Original peach grove

Sometimes the skies, even in the spring just look dirty.  Sometimes they are stunning.  So I borrowed a stunning sky from the following picture, and I copied it into the picture you see above.

Beautiful spring sky in the foothills

The next thing I had to do was fill in the area between the part of sky that I pasted in and the tops of the trees.  That was hard work.  I started with the cloning tool, and got all kinds of extra tree tops, ugly dirty sky, layers of clouds, and odd colors in odd places.  So I used the brush tool and picked up a light color from the sky and erased the weird layers of clouds.

Peach trees with altered sky.

I am not super pleased with the left side of the sky, but I’m not sure how to make it look any better.  So what do you think?

Hi, I'm Marsha Ingrao, a retired educator and wife of a retired realtor. My all-consuming hobby is blogging and it has changed my life. My friends live all over the world. For thirty-five years, I lived in the most beautiful area in Central Valley of California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains minutes from the Sequoia National Park. As a child I moved from Indiana to Oregon. With my first husband I moved from Oregon to Colorado to California. Every time we moved, it hurt so much to leave friends. I never wanted to move again. After Mark passed, I married again. I told Vince that I could never budge from my roots in California. He said he loved the high desert. I don't think he ever thought he would realize his dream. In November, 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince's sister came with us and lives close by. Every day is a new adventure.

  1. I think it looks very believable and you might ask Steve of some other cool tools you can use to spruce the pic up. There are ways to fix the sky to the left. I could play with it if you want. I love this picture with the touch-ups.

  2. Aye, must concur with fellow commenting bloggers here- definitely works most swimmingly, and dashed wonderful choice for sky. I love doing this meself, but do not do it too often- I know what you mean, can be laborious, but oh so worth it, so fun, rather meditative. Wonderful post as always GROOVE cheers,

    1. Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can, but it takes a lot of time, and a steady hand. My hand jiggles a bit too much, but you can control z and undo any mistakes. You just have to go slowly. I wouldn’t want to do it to every picture!!

      1. I can imagine it’s pretty tedious! Especially with complicated pictures. The outcome looks awesome though 🙂 Might have to give it a try the next time I have a few hours to play with photoshop!
